The fun and enjoyable beginning of a popular series.

Alice Hoffman is one of my favorite authors. Blackbird House is a timeline of interwoven lives lyrically written. If you like Alice Hoffman, this one won't disappoint.

In light of the Animal Planet Show "My Cat From Hell" and the star of that show, Jackson Galaxy's methods of solving cat behavior problems through behavior modification and educating cat owners about cat behavior, Dr. Dodman's solution of medication of some sort of almost every problem he encounters in this book seems outdated. The case studies are interesting, but I would love to hear Jackson Galaxy's reaction to each one.

Small rip on front cover at spine, otherwise in good condition.

I did not enjoy this one at all. The author focuses far too much on body parts and bodily functions and fluids. Characters have breath that smells like "old pork chop sandwiches," and other rancid descriptions; discussion of men's genitals goes on at length, it surprises the narrator than women have hair in their armpits, etc., etc. And that's just a very, very small sampling of the obsessive focus on body parts and functions. Where is the story here? Lost in how badly people smell, it seems. Ugh.

Not as good as I expected. The main character (Rocky) was a psychologist, yet her ability to understand people's behavior -- especially that of Peter, late in the book -- was severely lacking. Resolution of Melissa's situation, and more explanation for it, was also necessary. As another reviewer mentioned, several supporting characters were "cardboard-y," or rather shallowly and predictably drawn. I think with a good editor with a firm hand, someone to explain to the writer about tying up loose ends, not rushing an ending, and more thoroughly developing secondary characters, this could've been a more enjoyable read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is not a "happy" or "light" book. There are some unusual characters who do inexplicable things. At the center of the story, however, is a character -- Talmadge -- who is true to himself and his life. Perhaps he doesn't make choices the reader would prefer he make, but he is, in essence, a good man. There is a moodiness to this book that I imagine some readers wouldn't like and the ending isn't tied up with a pretty bow. With that said I enjoyed the setting, the characters, and the writing. I would recommend this to someone who wants to read a book to think about.

This was a pleasant enough diversion to read on an airplane.

I haven't read it. The title was too funny to resist, though.

Predictable romance, cute and fluffy. A very fast read.

Not as good as watching the show.

A good premise very badly executed. There are no sympathetic or even vaguely realistic characters in this story. From the earliest pages you have no reason to care about any of the characters and you just want the book to end. The psychobabble dialogue is exhausting, and the fact that this is one of those books that ends with the tired "did this really happen, or not?" is just the last nail in its coffin.
