Compton is one of my new favorite authors. This is his follow-up to Russian America. Both are excellent novels. The action sequences are top-notch and the stories are jam packed with plausible and exciting personalities. I hope there are more books on Alaska.I rate it as a 5 plus!!!

Crisis in the Pacific : The Battles for the Philippine Islands by the Men Who Fought Them
Review Date: 4/23/2010

Excellent first hand account of men who fought in the Pacific. You could feel their trembling in harsh, bloody battles. And all they had were their combat mates. The fighting was real, the outcomes were gruesome, bloody but filled with relief as they made it through. ... I would like to have read more of the naval aspects of the various battles on the sea. I give this book a 9 out of 10 for lack of naval battles
