A surprisingly well written book but a pilot who i assumed was a gruff, hard drinking fighter pilot. Boyington is a fine writer who provides a interesting view into not only the life of a World War II aviator but also life of a prisoner of war. He shares what might be considered an enlightened view of the culture he fought against. His account of life after the war is also interesting.

This is one of the greatest aviation books ever written. A must read for any pilot, or person who wishes to peak into the world of an airline cockpit. It has been suggested to me the book be read periodically and I must say it gets better with each read. Gann does a wonderful job of sharing his experiences in the cockpit in a way that is both educational to the pilot as well as extremely readable. If you are a pilot READ THIS BOOK!
