It is so hard to put down a book by Carla Kelly - read this in one day - sad I had to put it down to actually sleep! Her dialog is wonderful as well as character development. Supporting cast is always strong as well. Just a wonderful, feel good relationship. Gee, I was in love with the Admiral too after one day! Looking forward to reading the next CK novel!

I ended up reading this in one sitting. The storyline sucks you in and you find yourself rooting for the main character right from the start. The characters deal with poverty, alcoholism, betrayal and love. Elements of Indian lore are interesting (main character is half Cherokee). The ending had me twitching in my seat, worried about what would happen! Very good read - if you like a bit of mystery, love interest and people who are down on their luck trying to make a go of it, you will really like this story.

I have to agree with the reviewer who indicated this was not well written. So far,this is the worst installment in the series. The writing was so juvenile that I had to skip through a lot of the dialog. There was very little seriousness to the story line, which was pretty boring. The only thing that kept me going were the small story lines for Torin and Cameo. You could skip this book and not miss a thing. If the rest of the series reads like this, I won't be continuing.

I have stuck with this series because I really like the paranormal sexy brooding man-thing. Oh and the stories are pretty darn good. I don't think this one held me as some of the earlier ones did. I agree the main characters are strong and we knew them from before (Strider and Kaia) but the diaglog from Kaia really started to grate after awhile. She may be a bada** but her humor became not so funny. Also, the violence got kinda old too. Beat completely to a pulp and then everything is ok. I know they are supernatural beings but, still. What I did like was the underlying stories of Kane and Paris. This set up nice lead-ins to the next two installments. Many previous characters had lots of air time here. The end of the book was the best. Kaia stopped trying so hard and her rapport with Strider became more believable. I actually started liking her. Looking forward to Kane's story.

I have to agree with other reviews about this being a snoozer. I couldn't get into the book at all, even after the first 150 pages but trudged through it. There just wasn't a story - I couldn't tell you what the book was about. I also did not like the copycat writing from the J.R. Ward series Black Dagger Brotherhood. Stephanie doesn't do it well. I really like her Harlequin stories but this attempt at a wolf 'thing' is bad. I would not read any more books in this series.

Most reviews compare this series to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward and then proceed to criticize many of the elements as an attempt to 'copy' the story line. I actually enjoyed this take on vampires/secret societies and vampire lore.
Of course there are similarities but that can be said of many series by other authors in this genre. This group of warriors are a bit tamer the BDB but interesting and sexy, none-the-less. I like it for the fact there are not 25 story lines going at once and you can focus on the characters. The plot line is good, great action, and really like this set of characters. This first installment starts you off with just a handful of warriors and some of their mates, so not over-whelming. If you are looking for something a little less in-your-face, try this series.

Really enjoyed the fact the story line is picking back up. I have to agree with other reviewers, the past few installments were a bit slow. Torhment's story introduced some new characters and plot twists that make me frustrated that I have to wait awhile for the next book - which is quite wonderfully set up at the end of this book. Who hasn't been waiting for this story?!
John Matthew and Xhex carried over quite a bit in this book and probably will a bit into the next as I am not quite sure everything is resolved between them. Minor bit parts from previous Brothers and mates here. Some new bad vamps making a hold on the plot. And yes, there is a lot of f-bomb. This is book 10 - if you made this far, just go with it. It's part of the whole scene and isn't going to get better. If you are new = please start with book 1 and be warned - there is LANGUAGE. Sensitive types need not bother - try the Twilight series. :-)

For a first time author, this book is good! I met the author at a local event at my favorite indie book store in San Diego. She's a funny as she writes. The story had me guessing to the end - lots of interesting characters in the book. Some you get to know well, others are periphery but add value (or red herrings) to the plot. Corrie is a lawyer but previously helped her dad out doing private investigating. Only a hint of prior life here but defintiely a back story waiting to happen. Love that there are two men, equally sexy, intriguing and interesting in her life. Which one does she really like? Hmmm. The dialogue is true-life witty, snarky, mean, funny, cute depending on who Corrie is talking to. A lot of funny dialogue happens in her head as well. I hope there are more books to come and this becomes a series. Her work place is quirky (movie production - kids movies) and the characters are crazy - people I would like to know!

Read a few others in this series and by the time I got to this one and 3/4 through it, was pretty tired of the same excruciating detail about how bad Rogue and Zeke want each other - to their very souls and every other part of their body. I would have liked a little more story actually, not the constant "I'm going to die if I don't have sex with you" thoughts. And I also thought all the hoopla about Zeke's 'darker' side was silly. Really, he wasn't even BDSM. So he likes to use handcuffs sometimes and enjoys back door sex - it doesn't make him a pervert but apparently he beat himself up about. Over and over again. And again. Enough already. If you are a fan of the first four, you will most likely enjoy it. If you are looking for something better, there are other authors that can beat this one.

This is the first in a series about a PI in Washington state who has an interesting family history and an even more interesting mother (who you really want to not like but can't help liking). First installment involves blackmail, murder and a hint of romance. The main character, Eddie Shoes (real name Edwinia Schultz so I probably changed my name too!) is a very like-able character with lots of witty dialogue and fast paced story line.
Bit of a twist at the end of the book and a nice segue to the next in the series. Great read on the back porch on a nice summer day.

This is the fourth book in the Plagued series and the most action packed (although they are all full of nail-biting action). It's best to start with the first and read them in order. Each book in the series introduces new characters and the storyline builds to the crazy climax in book 4. The premise is a plague that erupted in the US and ended up dividing the continent into Plague states, quarantine zones, the Rurals and areas that bordered each zone. Folks infected ended up being hunted and corralled, sold as slaves or prostitutes (yes, zombies!). Experiments were performed, some not so much on the up-and-up to find a vaccine. There are half-breeds, those that have been 'cured' and those resulting from botched experiments. The main theme among all the books is how to find and cure a senator's daughter from the plague and use it as propaganda for re-election. Lots of great action and dialog with each book ending on a cliff and the next book picking up just days later. I truly hope there is a book five because the ending to book 4 is just awesomely wide open for a killer conclusion to the whole thing (no pun intended)!

I really didn't know what to expect with a story like the one in this book. The author described it very succinctly at an event I attend and I thought 'it seems interesting'. Wow - I read it in one day - had trouble putting it down. I was drawn in from the first page. Samuel is a most endearing main character and Ms. Washburn a great supporting cast member. The story kept me guessing (a murder mystery but really about a missing head) and the dialog was quick and witty. If you know someone with Asperger's Syndrome, you will find this story very heart-warming. I really hope this is a series!

This is my favorite of the four in the series I have read. The dialog is witty, crisp, quick and believable. Some of the interactions between characters had me laughing out loud. The storyline was easy on the brain as well - not so super far flung as the third edition. Lucas shows up in this edition and does play a sexy role (minor) in this book. We are introduced to a new character, Will Fagen, as well and no spoilers here - you will have to read the book. Other recurring characters as her squad have some good roles and we learn a bit more about some of them. Based on reviews for the fifth installment, I may just end the series here since I think this edition will be hard to beat.
