I gave the book 1 star for the pictures. Other than that, it is useless. The book is 288 pages but contains only 11 recipes and 25 projects. The rest of it is filled with pictures of yarn, jellybeans, flowers, buttons, etc. The author thinks that her life is so entertaining, she must share mundane stories about her baking, quilting and the like. If you are looking for a book that shows you how to stitch, bake and other comforts of home, this isn't it!

This book is so boring! I wanted it to get better, for something to happen and it was so dull. I didn't like any of the characters and there was no plot. Forced myself to finish and it was such a disappointment.

I usually love memoirs but found Hillbilly Elegy dry at times, repetitive and it didn't make sense to me chronologically how he would throw in his views on poverty and politics. I wish the book was written as a memoir until the end and then there was a chapter on how he feels as an adult about his life, looking back and what can be done to help children in poverty. I just didn't connect with the book at all and at times was rushing through it to get it over with.

Definitely a summer read. The writing was terrible and the name dropping was annoying. It was as if the author thinks she is a celebrity because she was at the mansion. Not quite. I was disappointed because the last chapter was still full of celebrity sightings. Nothing life changing, but it got me through a road trip.

This book was incredibly slow for me and didn't hold my interest until the last 100 pages but even then, it was like a totally different book. I agree with other reviews that this book could easily be half as long and you wouldn't miss out on anything. Too long winded, too much back and forth from the past to present day.

The story was engaging for my 6 year old but there was a part at the end that I thought was inappropriate. The mom told the daughter to keep a secret from her father.
"No, I don't think your father should know. And don't you ever tell him!" her mother said. "Promise me you won't." She only wished she could tell her father! She had never kept secrets from him before. It made her feel sad.
I think this book is sending the wrong message to kids. We won't be reading any more of this series.
