This was an excellent book. With very little information from the original source (the Bible) but with lots of historical research, the author puts together the possible story of Mary Magdalene. This has been a controversial character, often judged by misinformation or by lack of cultural knowledge of the time. Not in this book. You get the feeling that Mary Magdalene is telling you her story herself, she becomes believable, and elicits understanding and compassion.
I could not put this book down. I highly recommend it.

What an amazing book! It is a (mostly) fictional story with fictional and real characters, writen during a vey interesting time in Europe, when Christian "rebel" priests were beginning to transate the Bible to English and other languages other than Latin. The characters are well developed, believable, and the story is full of twists and turns but you never lose sight of what is going on with each character. I could not put this book down. I read it in two days! I highly recommend it.

This is a great book! The main character is witty, real, and believable. The story is contemporary, with a touch of romance, but not cliche. It is "boy meets girl" in contemporary NY City, told with humor, real life situations, and a little sadness. I could not put the book down. Read it in one weekend. I highly recommend it.

Excellent biography, written by a friend that accompanied him for many years, until the end. Good narrative in the first person, full of details, good descriptions, and great insight into the life of the writer. I highly recommend it.

Elizabeth Kostova knows how to tell a story. From the first page this book grabs you. The interwined stories, in present and past, are told with detail and care. You feel that you know the characters. The narrative is clear, the diferent voices of the narrators are interesting, and the ending is great.
I read this book in one weekend, I could not put it down.
