This is an interesting read - IF - you are a sailor or student of the seas.
It will probably be boring if you are looking for a plot but if adventure, specially on the open seas, is your thing it will me interesting. It will give you a sense of the experience of sailing aboard a 70+ year old Tall Ship through their many trials and tribulations.

This is typical Grisham... captures the interest from the start. While this story is fiction one can find many similarities to real life.
After finishing the book I picked up the newspaper and read an article (excerpts & summary follow) about Massey Energy the nations 6th largest coal company located in W Va and operator of The Upper Big Branch mine. Big Branch has a troubled safety record and was hit with $900,000 in federal fines in 2009. for 500 alleged safety violations according to Labor Dept records.
Massey CEO lost a $50 Million verdict in a fraud lawsuit and spent $3 million to help elect a state appellate judge who ended up casting a crucial vote to overturn the verdict against Massey. The CEO has donated $50,200 to federal candidates since 1989 and people associated w/ Massey and it's PAC have donated $307,000 to federal political candidates since 1990.
The above resulted in a US Supreme Court dispute that tested the effect of campaign donations in judicial elections. The high court said "a judge must pull out of a case when a serious risk of actual bias arises". Now if we could just get the court to do the same with political contributions and bias!!!
This one will get you thinking about what really goes on behind the scenes in our political and justice system.

From the author of "How To Read A Person Like A Book"... Gerard Nierenberg is a recognized expert in the field of negotiations. While not exactly the most exciting subject this book is a comprehensive guide to negotiating including topics on background, preparation, how to recognize needs and some life examples.

Beyond Black Bear Lake is the follow-up book to Anne LaBastille's Woodswoman and is a continuation of her adventures in the wilderness. Having built her cabin in the Adirondack Mountains in the mid-seventies she is feeling the intrusion of the outside world on her solitude and she seeks sanctuary by moving deeper in the woods. In this book she tells of her experiences in building a second smaller cabin deeper in the wilderness. If you have read Woodswoman you will enjoy her continuing story. If you haven't and enjoy nature, ecology, the woods or wilderness, especially from a single woman's perspective, you will enjoy Anne LaBastille.

Includes sections on firearms, shells, blinds and boats, calls and calling, decoys, retrievers, clothes and gear. Also includes discussion about Ducks Unlimited and conservation issues and ends with a chapter on how to cook your game. A very readable book with tons of useful information for the beginner and intermediate wildfowl hunter. Includes a large number of B&W illustrations.

This book "not" only instructs you how to tie knots correctly it covers the best uses for each so you also learn when to use the various knots presented. I good reference guide to keep handy for boaters, campers, fishermen and others that find themselves sometimes baffled with ropes, lines and how to secure them

This book gives a real insiders look at lobster fishing... everything from the hurdle of becoming an accepted member of a "Harbor Gang" to a scientific and economic look at voluntary and mandatory regulations, size limits, etc If you've ever spent any time on the Maine coast and watched the lobster fisherman or bought lobster from a dockside co-op you'll enjoy learning more about the "rest of the story".

Man has sailed the seas for centuries without really knowing where they were. It was only in the late eighteenth century that the invention of the chronometer allowed sailors to pin point their location. This factual story of the development and refinement of this important instrument makes for an interesting read. If you like to sail, are interested in technical things or are just plain curious about the things around us you will find this and both interesting and informative.

This book is a great beginners guide to everything financial. Presented in an easy to read Q&A format it can be read cover-to-cover or one section at a time to brush up on a pertinent topic. Most topics & recommendations are timeless and really haven't gone out of date. Includes more than finances and investing - it also has sections on insurance, real estate, estate planning, taxes.

A gripping survival story and great read that goes way beyond the action packed sport of mountain climbing. How an accident and the almost fatal ramifications play out goes beyond the adventure and into human nature. I found the postscript and epilogue particularly interesting. It is best to spend some time exploring the glossary before reading as there are lot of technical climbing terms used throughout. It truly is amazing what the human body can endure given the will and determination to survive.
