My friend, who is a retired history teacher, recommended this book. It tells the true story of a frontier woman's escape and amazing journey home after she is kidnapped by Shawnee Indians. The author went to great lengths to capture as many factual details as he could of her journey, even following her route himself. I was riveted from the very beginning and couldn't put it down, reading most of it in one sitting.

This is an earlier book of Deaver's, originally published under a pseudonym. I was surprised that he wrote other books under a different name and was not sure this one would live up to his usual standard. The plot is less complicated and the characters less developed than those novels written under his real name; in fact, I have to admit that I suspected the outcome well before I was finished with the book. However, I still enjoyed the book and would recommend it to Jeffery Deaver fans.

Boyle takes the reader into the world of identity theft from the perspective of both the victim and the thief. The thief's slimy character is developed so thoroughly that I found myself unable to sympathize with any aspect of him. All my sympathies lay with the victim Dana, a young deaf woman, and her boyfriend Bridger, who travel cross-country in pursuit of the man who stripped her of her dignity and puts her relationship withBridger in jeopardy. I was not only angry at the injustice of their situation, but also at the prejudices Dana has to endure living in a hearing world. The novel is well written and kept my interest, but the ending is ambiguous.
