Some clever ideas and a love of comic book archtypes, race politics, and psychotherapy give the story energy. Repetitive machine-gun swearing, shallow characterization, and an inconsistent plot detract. Overall, I do find myself wishing for a sequel.

Excellent read! The characters are well written, and will be very familiar to those who've seen the movies. The storyline is suspenseful and has enough excitement that you can hear the John Williams soundtrack in your head. Interesting characters, exciting situations, fun dialogue!

Very good story with a winter, Christmas holiday tone. Perfect for reading to kids on a cold winter night.

A well-thought and well-detailed world in which a handful of people gained superpowers, and then throw the nation into chaos by turning into criminals and dictators.
Brandon Sanderson populates his world with some stock sci-fi characters, but wisely anchors the book with an engaging story about a young man's quest for revenge. At the same time Sanderson illustrates (by example) the limitations of that guiding goal in a person's life, and the desire for something beyond revenge.

A double-shot of pop-culture, combining superheroes and reality shows, is pure entertainment. Todd Nauck's imagination and joy really comes through on the pages.
The central characters are defined not only through their actions but also through individual "interviews," in a manner similar to actual reality shows.
My only criticism is personal opinion: with at least a hundred spandexed, armored, or caped characters introduced, the story couldn't give "camera time" to some who looked really interesting.
