My children loved this book! It made them think about a different way of life than ours. A very poignant look at what being homeless might be like. We imagined ourselves in their shoes, and we grew to love the main character - an old homeless man who imagines himself to be just fine without any family. But he is transformed and the ending is wonderful!

Enjoyed this book. A little slow getting into it, but then went fast. Written in a very "British" style. If you like British style drama, mysteries, etc., you should like this book. Book about about a wife/mother that dabbles in detective work. Looking forward to reading the next one.

I enjoyed this book and learned a lot that I didn't know about the immigrants coming into the US during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The story switches from the past to modern times and back again. There are some difficult and sad passages, but this book teaches a valuable historical lesson. I would recommend it, and will probably read it again someday.

We loved this book! Such a sweet and poignant story. At the end, my children just sat quietly reflecting on the story. A definite keeper!
