Corey stared in disbelief at the charred wasteland that had been her neighborhood. Everything was gone-destroyed by the fire that swept through the canyon, turning everything in its path to blackened ash. The loss was devastating-but for Corey, the lonliness was even worse. Everyone around her was too busy trying to put her life back together to understand Corey's problems...everyone except the one person she thought was too tough to care about anything.

Nat Boyd and Boyd Fink have been entertaining themselves for years by making up crazy games to play. Now, in an effort to spice things up a little, theyve invented Faboo Facts. This game creates a doozy competition between the Boyds, as they battle to out-faboo one another with the more impressive fact. But certainly the Boyds cant judge their own competition! Who better to call the shots than Jessie Kornblume and Maria Dundee, world-famous fifth-grade know-it-alls? But this crash of craniums is destined for disaster. Its not long before this competition has gone too far, and Fink starts to change. Hes not the Fink Nat has grown up with, nor the Fink who Jessie and Marla live to annoy. In fact, hes not Fink at all. Hes fink in a funk!

Meet the Moffats. There is Sylvie, the oldest, the cleverist, and-most days at least-the responsible one; Joey, who though is only twelve is the man of the house..sometimes; Janey, who has a terrific upside-down way of looking at the world; and Rufus, who may be the littlest but always gets in the biggest trouble. Even the most ordinary Moffat day is packed with extraordinary fun. Only a Moffat could get locked in a bread box all afternoon, or dance with a dog in front of the whole town, or hitch a ride on a boxcar during kindergarten recess. And only a Moffat could turn mistakes and mischief into hilarious and one-of-a-kind adventure.

Sam pointed out to the ocean. We could just see from the front of a sailing ship appearing from the edge of the island. We clutched our trees and watched the front of hte ship turn into what looked like a huge wooden ocean liner. Except this ocean liner had cannons. And it was flying a flag from its mast-a black flag with a white skull.
