Home Schooling: The Right Choice : An Academic, Historical, Practical, and Legal Perspective
Review Date: 3/19/2008

This book has documentation for making the choice to homeschool. It would be a great book for someone who is interested in homeschooling, or for a person who would just like more information. It would also be helpful if you are feeling threatened. It will give you guidance on steps to take.

This book is not a how-to guide. You will not find much information on how to actually start homeschooling your children. There are a lot of books out there that are helpful, but this would not be one of them.

Micro Minis: Create Teeny Tiny Rooms With Your Own Style and Flair (American Girl Library (Hardcover))
Review Date: 7/2/2009

This book has instructions for making very tiny furniture and accessories. The furniture is too tiny to work for a 1/12 scale dollhouse, but it is really cute and has some good ideas.

Very informative book on Natural Family Planning (NFP). Gives clear, easy to follow information about beginning to chart your cycles, either to achieve pregnancy or avoid it. Most of the information covers avoiding pregnancy.

The author does not believe in other methods of birth control, this book is only about the NFP approach.

Over My Head: A Doctor's Own Story of Head Injury from the Inside Looking Out
Review Date: 6/4/2010
Helpful Score: 2

This book is about a doctor who had a brain injury which changed her entire life. It is not a fairy-tale story, but it does have a happy ending in some ways. It is a story about accepting and overcoming.

It is an important book for families of persons with head injuries and also for the professionals that work with them. Dr. Osborn has been on both sides, as a doctor and a patient. She showed such determination, strength, and courage.

One thing I like about this book is that constantly it focuses on the positive. I'm sure Ms. Osborn has not always met with understanding, kind people, but this book does not really dwell on that. She does focus on all the people who have helped her on her journey, what they have done for her and what has been helpful and encouraging.

I was fortunate to hear her speak back in 2003 at a medical conference. She is well-spoken and related so well to her audience. It is hard to believe that she has so many daily struggles with things that everyone else takes for granted. I highly recommend this book. Please pass it around!

I liked this book because, as in a lot of Mrs. Hill's books, the heroine begins by realizing the sad circumstances her family is in, and goes about doing what she can to improve things for everyone.

The author shows us what influence a lady can have just by making the home an inviting place to be, and taking an interest in each person in the family. At first, Cornelia is sad to have to leave school, and feels very hopeless about the whole situation. She starts to do what she can, and gets everyone to finally pitch in and help.

Of course, there is a romance included in this book. If you are new to Mrs. Hill's books, the romances are very innocent and sweet, quite different than many other romance novels.

**SPOILER** The only problem with this book for me, is that in the end, Cornelia wins the heart of and marries a very wealthy man. (It is that way in many GLH books.) There is nothing wrong with ending up married at the end of a romance novel; that is usually the outcome. But many of these books end up with marriage to a very wealty man. It is even more disappointing in this novel, where the heroine has spent all this time learning to be frugal in her homekeeping and decorating.

This book has instructions for projects that you can make using a serger. There are good instructions for each technique to be used, and then nice projects where you can practice your skills. You would need to be familiar with basic serger use, this book shows how to do special, fancier things that you might not have known you could do with a serger.

There are 18 projects for the home, and 20 wearable projects.
