This book will never become "old" even though we are long past the year 1984. Great SF even for those of us that really are not SF readers.

A great "old fashioned" hamburger cookbook. There are 9 different receipes for Swedish Meatballs alone! Of course none of them are as good as mine but then nothing is perfect! and they aren't bad...

Classic "Trash" from the 1960s or was it early 1970s. It is not as sexual explicit as today's "trashy" novels and that may help the book rather than hinder it. No, I wouldn't call it well written and certainly not sensitive. It is "erotic" if you like the Robbins style of eroticism. Robbins wrote more for men than he did for women. I'm sure a lot of men would love to aspire to the sexual prowess of a Robbins character, however most women would agree "real men just ain't like that"

Not Margolins best, that was probably Gone,But Not Forgotten. But he always delivers a quick fast read.

If you get the chance listen to Frank McCourt read this, his own story. The combination of this beautiful, funny and sad story all told in his own voice is one of the BEST audio "reads" ever!

Very fast paced, can't put it down type of book. BUT it drove me NUTS that everything in this book was supposed to have taken place over a few hours and in "real" time 99% of the events in the book that took seconds or minutes, would have taken 10 to a thousand times longer! This guy could race across the entire crowded city of Rome fater than I could get from one end of my own home to the other!!

Make a selection of period piece appetizers and then keep the cookbook out on display as part of the decor!

These captions are great FUN!!
Even more fun is going through the book and taking the captions and applying them to the pictures in your own "people" album. It's amazing how you can add hours of laughter to a family pictures with the addition of a real off-the-wall caption. You can actually make the most BORING pictures hilarious with the right caption!

I haven't seen the movie and so I'm not "tainted" by the Hollywood view of this story.
It is very well written, very simple story. The story is simply told in an understated but beautiful manner. There are no graphic details to shock. Even the death of one of the characters is understated.
