This book gives some good practical advice but it was lacking on advice to people of limited financial means and/or people who have no family or network of friends and people who live in rural areas where there may be limited services for people who are aging, disabled, or need specialized medical care.

I enjoyed this book. It's well written and a fast read. Although it is in the Young Adult category it offers a lot of topics that would make for a good book discussion for any age group. "The Fat Girl" could be anybody. That character could have been the ugly, deformed, misfit, etc. girl or boy. The pitfalls and traps of relationships, peer pressure, unreal expectations, and naiveté, along with family dysfunctionalism is always a good thing to gain insight about whether one is young or old.

This book was more of a biography of the band Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, not the man Tom Petty. It presented itself more as a detailed mention of the revolving door of musicians that were band members, were no longer band members, auditioned to be band members, etc. Very little information was given of Tom Petty outside of the trials and tribulations of his career. After reading the book, it left me wondering what was left out. There was not a balanced portrayal of the positive and negative. Surely these musicians must have enjoyed their accomplishments as a band and their personal relationships with each other. This book seemed to focus on the negative.

Once again Carl Hiaasen delivers! His writing is pure talent. Razor Girl is an entertaining, fast paced trek into the unique Florida life - but take your time so you can thoroughly enjoy the oddities of every twist and turn. Having lived in Florida I swear I've met these crazy characters and after reading this book, I'm homesick.
For a real treat listen to the Audio Book. The audio book reader, John Rubinstein, is incredibly impressive as he reads this story. He stays in character through-out and lends even more humor to the story.
