Spare prose laying out the fear and trauma of a young mid-west farmer when exposed to the brutality of the European battlefield during WWII. Intense study of individual response to fear. Well written

Delightful romp, with interesting historial take on Gettysburg and fun characters. Dialogue is crisp. The bad guys are delightfully bad, and the good guys are charming, with sharp tongues. Picks you up and carries you along for the ride.
