Story is a little long winded. Not much on action, a lot of background material about how snipers become snipers.

It was different. Facts mixed with fiction. Interesting read. Give it a try.

I heard a lot about this book, I finally had the chance to read it. To tell you the truth I found it long winded, the action parts were good, but the rest wasn`t. This story could`ve been told in 225 pages not 389 pages. The hype was not justified.

This review was written in 2006 for the second of the Altered States two part series. 12 years later it still holds true. Deathland series is no longer the same it slow not written well at all.Just finished and have to say that this is the better of this duology(Altered States). After a hiatus from reading my beloved Deathlands series because of bad writing in my opinion, I picked these up at a local used bookstore. Even though it is the better of the two, it is still not so good. It has make me reaffirm my decision to not read any more of these titles because I cannot bear the slow disintegration of this series. The characters do not act like they should, and it makes me sad to read it. Axler must be rolling in his grave at the thought of what has become of his Deathlands series. Read(or re-read) the first of the Deathlands series if you need to have some Ryan Cawdor and frineds in your mind.
