Cherish tells a very special kind of story. The book's overview describes pay Rebecca as the Angel. However, I view Race as the Angel. He rescued Rebecca when she was in distress. He displayed sensitivity, and patience despite her ingrained inhibitions. He fell in love with her and was ready to die for her. His past history as a gunslinger enabled him and prepared him with the diligence, fortitude, and honor necessary to secure their future.
This is an earlier Catherine Anderson that I missed. It's a very enjoyable read.

Covet, Book 1 of J. R. Ward's Fallen Angels series.
Jim Heron is the quintessential bad boy, but he is also very good. So good that he's been selected to tilt the scale in the battle between good and evil. Given seven tries, I'd put my money on him every time. He's bad to the bone, yet he's as good as gold, and the future of mankind is on the line.
