I kept reading this book thinking that something good had to eventually happen to this family. I did not enjoy the book and often had to force myself to continue through it but I do admire the author for eventually overcoming the extreme odds stacked against him at a young age.

It is a first hand account from one of the survivors and was first published in 1912. The book makes the reader realize the extent of drama that was added in by Hollywood. Titanic was a GREAT movie but a "little" different from what is represented in the book.

True to Nicholas Sparks' style, it left you wondering, smiling, angry and then smiling again.

This was a good book written by an author I had not read before. It held my attention and there were times I did not want to put it down. Melanie and Grace grew up in a home devoid of love and attention. The housekeeper became their pseudo mom. Now they are grown women with families of their own. Their parent's death leads to the unveiling of secrets and revelations as to why they lived the way they did.
