This is actually the sequel to Bread Alone, but I haven't yet read the first novel, and still really enjoyed this one. A baker working in the Queen Anne district of Seattle, her friendships and boyfriend struggles - an easy, rainy day kind of read.

Classic Alex Cross - not my favorite of the series, but a quick and exciting read. Christine is back, and Alex is with the FBI.

A beautiful, lyrical book about the occupation of a small Greek island during WW II. Romantic, funny, frighteningly graphic in its depiction of the horrors of war - truly a piece of literature. (And no, I haven't seen the movie - I like Nicolas Cage, but he wouldn't have been my pick. It might ruin the book for me. . .)

A very summery kind of book - or maybe a book for the winter, when you WISH it was summer! Set in Tahiti, engaging characters and a glimpse into authentic native life. A book about women, mothers & daughters and friends, all in an island setting.

I really enjoyed this book - Beverly was from Portland (now resides in CA) and so am I - I grew up seeing the streets that she mentioned in her Ramona, Henry and Beezus books. There's even a park with statues of her characters. Read about the woman who created some of our most well known and beloved children's characters.

VERY funny book, if you're a woman of a certain age (like me). Short pieces about aging.

Alice Hoffman is one of my favorite writers, and this book is suitable for both adults and teens. Sad but beautifully written, and strangely hopeful. Persecution of Jews in Spain in the 1500s.

Patricia Cornwell, crime novelist and forensics expert, takes on the 100+ year old mystery of the identity of Jack the Ripper. Compelling evidence for her theory of whodunit.

Extraordinary, captivating book about a traveling circus during the Great Depression. Kept me guessing right up until the very end.
