Swift was witty, intelligent and often scathing at sarcastic social commentary. He's very humerous amist the message. Perhaps his own words offer the best taste of Swift:
"He gave the little Wealth he had, To build a House for Fools and Mad:* And shew'd by one satyric Touch, No Nation** wanted it so much: That Kingdom he hath left his Debtor, I wish it soon may have a better."
-Verses on the Death of Dr. Swift penned by Jonathan Swift
*He did leave a large portion of his estate to found a hospital for the insane.
**Meaning England in the late 1600s and early 1700s.

127 Excerpts or "readings" by CS Lewis to encourage you in your personal and spiritual life. Really wonderful for a short daily reading.

The descriptions are beautiful, the story one of contrast-that of a very ordinary man entering in on something extraordinary by which he is then caught. One feels as if they are in the midst of the jungle with the Shan terrain all around them. And if you appreciate music, you will love being caught in the midst of this musical story.

For those who enjoy Bronte's witty, thoughtful, independent-thinking and reflective characters, this story is wonderful. Shorter than most of her works, it's an easy read, but still has all the good stuff Bronte offers. Enjoy!

Dolores lived a childhood and life that taught me, enlightened me, scared me, made me laugh, cry and ultimately feel trimphant with her as she makes "undone" all that transpired in her life and is able to fully and beautifully accept "the love that is offered her." It kept me reading!

A journey into an awakening of self. The decisions Ginnie makes as she goes beyond her usual self-inflicted boundaries are both quiet and yet momentous! She shows us how a private life and history can't always stay hidden forever and with bravery she shows how she takes control and moves forward. It's both a little dark and yet a rich tale.
