The author is adept at weaving the past and present together so that your are curious about what comes next. I want to read any other books she has written.

Caroline Graham is like Agatha Christie incarnate but in her own wonderful way! Just like Christie, she takes you into the minds of the various characters in her stories and you keep thinking about what is happening in the book after you've had to put it down for a spell. No sneaky surprises with things not revealed in the book, just a savvy understanding of human nature and the dark side it can often gravitate toward.

I really expected to like this book, and I did....mildly. What disconcerted me was the writing style. It just didn't seem to flow to me and there did not seem to be a consistent voice. The main character, Pru, never made me care about her very much. In fact, she seemed downright unsympathetic at the beginning. Some of the expressions the author used just came off wrong at times. I still can't put my finger on what it was, but at times I would cringe at the awkwardness of the phrasing.

Claire Cook always writes fun summer reads! I promise that you'll be obsessed with lipstick by the time you finish this book. Enjoy!
