Typical Sunset Book. Good basic illustrations and instructions with photos of projects. Not the most extensive treatment, but helpful to the homeowner.

Charming addition to the Vorkosigan series. Ivan Vorpatril finally gets hitched, essentially by accident to a refugee from Jackson's Hole. He manages to get in and out of trouble without the assistance of the usual suspect, Miles. It's a little different twist than all the novels where Miles is the hero. It is written from the viewpoint of two chronic underachievers, Ivan and Tej. They find themselves uniquely matched in their desire for a peaceful uneventful life. No universes are saved. Relationships between some long time supporting characters in the series are explored. History shows itself as still marking it's survivors and an old treasure is found and recovered under Vorbarr Sultanna.

Just want to note the title is "Junie B. Jones and the Yucky Blucky Fruitcake". "Fruit case" is how it shows for the ISBN I put in, but photo agrees with my copy (Fruit cake). I don;t know the procedure to have it corrected.

This is the first book I read by this author. It's English chick lit, which is always a bit different than American chick lit. This story has a lot of damaged and screwed up people who are real emotional survivors. The interpersonal situations and the character's lives are quite messy, and everyone has something in their background that is very flawed or hurtful. But they persevere and keep on going forward to reasonably successful lives with some semblance of lasting love, or at least close enough. A lot of the reviews see the book as unlikely and with poor characterization. Too me, it seems more like a more British style novel where EastEnders soap opera meets Bridget Jones' Diary.

Long conclusion to a long series. The journey back to civilization is not as interesting as the previous books. Roger has changed, but his family is gone, his Mother is damaged and he needs to assume major responsibilities- after disposing of a lot of treacherous plotters. It is a bit dark, as Roger is essentially avenging his dead siblings and deposing his own Mother to gain a position he does not even want to hold. The necessities of state are not as riveting as the necessities of survival, though equally dangerous. He ends up with the girl, who is finally convinced to marry for the needs of the state. Her future is to act as the ruler's counterweight, govern his temper in the future and provide an heir to the empire. Not exactly romantic. Good conclusion, but more somber and less of a romp. Lot of focus on the limits of power and how easily it can force bad choices for better ends.

This is a post apocalyptic novel where most of North America is depopulated by a mysterious "Wave" of unknown energy. The action follows several story lines involving the ensuing worldwide political and economic collapse into disorder and chaos. It's focused on the role of the remaining U.S. military on overseas deployments, and on the few surviving domestic bases circa March 2003. The remnant civilian Americans are in Hawaii, Washington state, or worldwide as ex pats. There are main characters in Europe, the Middle East, Gitmo, Hawaii, and Seattle and the high seas. The story lines proceed independently until there is a small linkup in the last few chapters. It is a good read, with a lot of action and desperate measures as both enemies and allies with new priorities interact with each other and the American military. It moves along quickly as matters grow progressively worse...everywhere. The "Wave" vanishes as mysteriously on the last page as it appeared in the first chapter. This does make the whole book seem like it was just setting up for the next one. But it's a page turner that keeps you moving from crisis to crisis following the well written main characters for 500 or so pages.
