Interesting, but not nearly as good as Remains of the Day.

The book description is inacurate. It WAS NOT BASED ON AN ACTUAL HISTORICAL EVENT as anyone who read the introductory material would know! It was inspired by a never acted upon request of a Cheyenne chief. I did not like this book. It was way too contrived, the characters were not believable and the relationships that developed in the book between the white women and the Cheyenne would have taken much longer than a few months to develop.

This book is a distortion of Scripture and advocates a harsh and punitive style of parenting with much emphasis on spanking! As a parent and an early childhood educator and vehemently oppose the parenting advice in this book!

This book is, unfortunately, not very believable. A new widow sells and moves across country about six weeks after the death of her beloved husband. An accomplished writer, she seems to have almost no other relationships--either friends or family. With one phone call she reconnects with long ignored college friends, almost immediately finds a man she tries to sleep with, and within about 3 months opens a store with the help of her old friends, none of whom live remotely nearby. She tries to present a picture of bereavement and the power of friendship, but it needs to be presented more realistically. She should also know that a maple seed won't flutter to the ground on its delicate wings in December!
