Other than the subject matter which is thought provoking, I especially enjoyed this book because it is set in Central Pennsylvania where I was born and raised. The author did good research of the area.

I loved this book. In typical Alice Hoffman fashion, it includes wonderful descriptions and development of characters about which the reader actually cares.

It was an interesting read. I enjoyed hearing about the techniques of quilting and the different quilt patterns. I am planning to pass the book along to my sister-in-law who quilts. The story within the story was intriguing.

"Still Waters" starts exactly where "Blackbird" stops. I actually liked the second book better, maybe because Jennifer is older and it felt more relatable to me. I am amazed that Jennifer Lauck was able to overcome her many difficulties growing up and go on to write about them. Hopefully, these books will be an inspiration to others with difficult childhoods.
