I enjoyed the book as it is a classic cozy murder mystery. The setting is Victorian England and main characters are Thomas Pitt and spouse Charlotte. The author writing style draws you into the story line and the characters' life smoothly. It is a very good portrayal of Victorian philosophy toward women and social class. I intend to read the entire series.

I enjoyed the first book in the series. Two main characters are opposites and building a friendship during the course of the book. While the book's setting is in England, the author does not overdo the English perspective and gently explains differences so Americans can still enjoy the book. The first chapter introduces you to one of the main characters (Carol) with a simple event; while walking her dog she finds a body on the beach and upon returning home calls the police. Now here is where the story begins; police to go beach...but no dead body to be found. And then begins the REAL STORY, WHERE is the body??? Was there a body or is Carol imagining things?? Enjoyable....in the classical cozy mystery genre.

A great read...Martha Grimes is an amazing author...I could not put the book down. Read it during a 3 day weekend.

This book provides 21 different concepts in attacking the habit/problem of procrastination. I found the concepts to be encouraging, uplifting and easy to apply to my life. While not all concepts may not apply to your situation I am quite certain that a few concepts could be useful to anyone.
Each chapter can be easily read within a 15 minutes setting. This book could also be used for a group setting. There is space on each page and at the end of each chapter to make notes. The font size of the print makes reading easy on the eyes and easy to highlight.
Would likely recommend this book.

Did not like it....A typical "I feel sorry for me. Look at all the years I have wasted" book
Basically as the main character approaches her 40th birthday she physically starts to disappear...then the book spending a great deal of time proving that she has never developed her own identity and life, as she is always thinking and talking about her friende, mother, and former lover turned friend. Basically the book's theme is that as a single woman approaches middle age without having married or given birth to a child the American Culture views her as "invisible" as a non person. I believe everyone builds their own life, and can start a new life at any time.

A nice cozy mystery that moves right along. A young woman who is opening a business as a pet pyschologist (dog trainer) becomes involved in two unsolved murders when she adopts the german shepherd who belonged to the first victim. Author introduces a variety of supporting characters (mother, roommate, dog training clients, officemate) and the plot moves along smoothly. No gore, horror or moldering romances. Book comments on main character's relationship with roommate, mother , clients, murder suspects and officemate. Main character is a strong, intelligent, independent woman...read book a couple of chapters at a time. Very enjoyable...will now start second book in the series.

I got this book for my daughter.
She needed it for a college course she is currently taking.
She states the book was very informative. She says the book helped her to understand her own learning diablity (regarding mathematics) and help her to understand other types of disabilities.
