This was the first book in the series that I'd read but I found I could enjoy it as a stand-a-alone. There are so many characters that I occasionally got confused but there is a list of characters in the front which helped. The Halloween story was fun and I loved the Halloween decorating ideas. Reading about all the cooking the main character does made me want to try out some new recipes and stop eating out so much.

The 7th book in the series and it's still going strong. Miss Lakin's years as a TV writer pay off - she keeps the story moving at a fast pace - new characters, different storylines. The mystery was easy to figure out but that doesn't affect the enjoyment of the story. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Murder Sails at Midnight has enough suspects and misdirection to keep you guessing till the end. Miss Babson's interesting characters make for an enjoyable Atlantic crossing into the past.
