This book is excellent for early elementary kids who want to learn about the stars. It explains everything in simple terms, tells the names of the stars that comprise The Big Dipper and uses pictures to show how our view of it changes from season to season. I used this book with first graders and they understood and enjoyed it.

This is a super science resource for learning about the desert habitat. The illustrations are very detailed and help explain why the cactus is so vital to desert animals. After reading, one of my kids described the saguaro as an "apartment building" in the desert.

This is a fantastic resource for garden enthusiasts and gardeners alike. I cannot say enough good things about this book. Although it is described as a travel guide, it is really much more than that.
The book includes chapters on public gardens, farmer's markets and pick-it-yourself farms, annual garden events, day trips, a special section on places to visit with your children and more. The author also writes about local garden clubs, volunteer opportunities and retail sources for plants in the Houston area. Each listing includes the website address and a map location to help you plan for travel time.
Since this book was written by a master gardener, it provides thorough plant information and even some helpful gardening tips. My favorite part is the "Best of the Best" list and now my goal is to visit all of the destinations and events listed here. I look forward to discovering some hidden treasures in my own hometown.

If you are looking for a humorous story to read aloud to little ones, you've found it! Get Out Of Bed has become a favorite in my first grade classroom and the kids beg me to read it again and again. They love to hear all of the crazy things that happen when sleepy Amy won't wake up for school.

This is a fantastic book! If I had to choose, I think it's one of the best by Dr. Seuss.
