I enjoyed this book. It fits in with what you would expect from a book such as this but also breaks with your expectations and keeps you surprised.

I am surprised that none of the other reviewers on here noted how truly corny this book is. Maybe it was innovative at the time but I found it trite and rather obvious.

I am a big Harlan Coben fan but this is not his best work.

This book is excellently researched and thoroughly logical. Don't believe the hype about wheat. It's a whole food and it is safe and nourishing when prepared correctly with traditional methods. Get this book!

More Vegetables, Please!: Over One Hundred Easy and Delicious Recipes for Eating Healthy Foods Each and Every Day
Review Date: 10/7/2016
Helpful Score: 1

The chicken pot pie recipe is really, really great and has become a regular for us. I use the crust from Agnes Thom's recipe. I would not ruin it by using a store bought crust. The chocolate cake with beets--you can taste the beets--but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The butternut squash upside-down cake was a pleasant surprise and still is talked about even though I made it only once for a friend's birthday (yes, we are still friends). Only disappointment is that there are not more recipes for vegetables at breakfast. This book is a must for every kitchen/cook that aspires to cooking nutritious and delicious food.

This book was OK but there was not a lot in it about Mars. See the other reviews listed here. I still might check out other books by her because she has an entertaining style.

I think the SA means South American, but I cannot be sure. Nowhere on the tapes does it say what variety of Portuguese it is. But I think it may be Brazilian. The tapes are strange as they have the English word/phrase and then the Portuguese word/phrase, and then the switch to the opposite with space to repeat. They contain a lot of vocabulary and it's a lot to take in all at once. These tapes deserve multiple listens.

I did not like this book. Anything else I would write would be too mean.

Real Food, Fake Food: Why the Delicious Difference Mattersand Why You Don't Know Which You're Eating
Review Date: 6/5/2022

This was a very strange book to read/listen to. Although I had some idea of the issues Olmstead was talking about, I had no clue of their pervasiveness. Yet, Olmstead appeared overly angry and concerned about some of the products he discusses here. I doubt anyone really thinks that California champagne comes from France. Also a moment's reflection would suffice to realize that the powdered parmesian cheese in plastic containers that we consume is not actually from Parmigiano Italy. I was interested to learn that it is next to impossible to buy Kobe or Wagu beef in the USA but then again why would I really care? Olmstead gets himself worked up over these issues. Sure, they are good facts to know, but not enough to get upset about. However, when fraudulent vendors and purveyors substitute, say, one type of fish or seafood for another, it may trigger dangerous allergies. He also talks about times in the past when people were killed by consuming tainted or adulterated food and drink. Will I change my habits after reading this book? Probably not. But I am interested in trying the genuine Parmesano-Reggiano cheese that he writes about and also pictures on the cover. Worth the time to read if just to experience the passion of the author for these authentic products and his disdain for the fakes.

This book was a dissapointment after reading Mary Wilson's books. It's full of platitudes and vague statements. I would have liked more specific detail. Ross writes of how she enjoys listening to self-help tapes, and I think the style has influenced her prose. At first I thought this must have been written by a ghostwriter, but if the letters from her daughters are authentic, then this overblown, sappy prose style may run in the family. The book is filled with photographs, which are excellent.

The Sedgemoor Strangler (Sounds Like Murder, Vol. 5) (Audio Cassette) (Unabridged)
Review Date: 10/19/2018

This is a short story on one cassette. It was a quick and enjoyable listen. Really not your typical murder mystery as it had a bit of romance as well. Set in England.
