Saturdays with Stella: How My Dog Taught Me to Sit, Stay, and Come When God Calls
Review Date: 4/21/2016

I enjoyed this book. Being a dog owner myself and having a young dog I got as a rescued puppy I could identify with her experiences with Stella. I liked the emphasis on her relationship with Stella and how it grew as the trust between them grew. I would like to try some of the methods of teaching obedience commands that she describes with my own dog. As a Christian, I also especially liked the author's relating Stella's struggles with obedience and trust to our own experiences of learning to obey and trust God in our lives. It was a charming book.

While this was a good story, it's heartbreaking and haunting. It was a book I could not put out of my mind for a long time and I found it so incredibly sad that it was one of the few I was sorry I'd read. I was sorry because I couldn't get the sadness and heartbreak out of my mind. I wish it could have had a happier ending, but then it wouldn't be the same story or have the same impact. If you love dogs you'll have a hard time reading this book.

I enjoyed this book very much. It rings pretty true although I don't have any experience in a restaurant so I really don't know. If you didn't realize it before you'll see what a tough job it is to work in that business, especially for the lower paid cooks and kitchen help, with no benefits, no paid sick days, and very little job security since you're basically at the owner's mercy to hire and fire at will. It's well written, informative, entertaining and definitely worth reading.
