I found this book similar to Gone Girl in that it is engaging from the start and a creepy thriller that reminds you never to make assumptions about people. Also, none of the characters are terribly appealing as people, but you can easily emphasize with their situations. I am now very much looking forward to the upcoming movie.

I had so much fun reading this book as it reminded me of all the Judy Blume books I read as a young person. Blume has an accessible style that draws you in to the lives of the characters. There are many players in this novel, but it is easy to follow the interconnections between the friends and families. You might not want to read this when flying, but otherwise it's a great summer read.

It is hard to convey how enjoyable this book was to read. I had a clear sense of the characters and locations and was always happy to pick it back up and find out more about the mystery. I quickly read the second in the series and could see more books that include the whole case of characters that the author has developed.

I found it initially difficult to engage with the characters, but once I committed to them I was hooked. The relationships are fully considered and the resolutions to faults and failures are not necessarily easy. Still, love in all forms breathed from Tarkington's pages.

After a trip to India and a fascinating visit to Jaipur this year, I wanted to learn more about the Indian princes. The lavish lives these families lived is hard to believe, but after seeing the former palaces I can picture it. The Maharaja and Maharani seemed to truly care about Jaipur and its people. I would like to read more from a different historian of the era when the princes ruled.
