From book's description:
Tonight, Countess Dani diPortanova will be the envy of the international social set. In a gala, star-studded ceremony, the cutting edge of the fashion world and ultra-rich glitterati will honor her as the undisputed queen of fashion design.
To many who will attend tonight, Dani is a radiant, ravashing beauty - a woman who has it all. To others, however, she is a woman to be scorned and detested: for there are those around her who have the world to gain should something deadly befall her...
ROBERTO DIPORTANOVA. A man whose excessive wealth is second only to his cold-blooded thirst for vengeance, he blames Dani for the death of his son and the fall of his family line...
MR. REGGIE. The flamboyant designer once rode a crest of fame - by putting his name on Dani's innovative designs. Now, his career in tatters, he lives to bring the Countess down - no matter what the cost.
BUNNY HESTER. born in abject poverty, she grew up to move in power-hungry circles - and got Dani her hot break. Now she would kill Dani, just to return the favor...
MONIKA VON REICH. The beautiful Austrian aristocrat is running scared from the Mob. Her life depends on a vast inheritance she would get from her best friend Dani - money she can only claim if Dani were dead.

This isn't my typical read, but since my daughter bought it for me, I thought I'd give it a shot. I really did enjoy it; liked the back stage viewpoint of the show. It explained a lot about why Simon is the way he is. :-)

The influential, uninhibited entertainer's life is traced from her turbulent Missouri childhood to her fame as a jazz singer and dancer. "This indispensable biography treats in full the two cultures--American and continental--that formed Baker, and sets a new standard for critical studies of performing artists," cheered PW.

The experiences of a group of Harlem teenagers come alive through Myers's use of their rhythmic vernacular. Mouse, 14, spends the summer playing basketball, preparing for a dance contest and--together with his pals--searching for a gangster's hidden loot with the help of a hot-headed kid and an ancient former gang member. But Mouse also has more mundane concerns: his new girlfriend is trying to come between him and his best friend, and Mouse's father, who deserted Mouse and his mother, has suddenly returned. Imbued by Myers with depth, credibility and a keen sense of humor, Mouse lends a strong narrative voice to this highly entertaining novel, which vividly captures the sights and sounds of a Harlem summer. Ages 10-14.

It was a very slow read for me. Up until I reached the middle, I considered putting it away and not finishing it. Not that it picked up in the middle, it's just that by that point I wanted to know how it ended. Although I don't recommend it because it was that boring, it WAS a subject that stayed with me after I finished reading it and gave me much thought. So, you be the judge!

Not a fairy tale. Very good... I enjoyed this story a lot. A couple of twists just how I like them!

No, it's not a fairy tale, but a novel featuring a lawyer who is working to prove that his young client, who has been involuntarily committed to a mental institution is sane. As the story unfolds, a body of a woman is found in a swamp. Seeming unrelated at first, the two stories start to come together ... Good read.

I enjoyed this story a lot. Characters were real and relatable. Iris Dart did a good job in portraying the things a person with mental illness has to deal with, while at the same time making her characters likable and making you truly care about them, and care how the story ends. Very good book.

I did not care for this book at all, and I am one that will read just about anything. Jumped around too much, and I found it hard to keep the characters straight. Pulitizer or no Pulitzer, I found it rather pointless.

The pictures are with older uniforms and pre-petals, but the stories are still nice to use with a group. The part with the story of Juliette Low can be used with many age groups.
