The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer is a deeper look into the history of the not so well received miniseries/film, Rose Red. In format of the title, it takes written entries of Ellen's accounting the abnormal and more darkly aspects of both the estate she is to eventually be married into with John Rimbauer as well his unique sexual appetites. It is a story of misdirection, madness, broken hearts and broken dreams, and an evil place where women vanish and men are found dead.
With that being said, on a more personal note, I was an avid fan of the concept for Rose Red and found a genuine enjoyment for the series as well it's characters and setting. The book, I had been wishing for to further open my eyes to the back lore of Rose Red itself and understand the past inhabitants as well more divinely terrifying disappearances it is so mentioned of in the film. The experience to say the least left me vexed and highly taken the wind out of my sails. There are genuine moments of insight that bring a raised eye to the supernatural and genuinely sinister world but these moments are quickly eaten up by more dull daily happenings.
We are met with a variety of different considerations for what Rose red is, if the evil may be in Ellen, if it might be the knowledge of the estate being built upon an Indian Burial ground or if there is something more, something worse. Plots are brought up and then chewed away for some other alternative and it never concludes the realization of the true evil. Plot elements differ than what is mentioned in the show on " official records " and lord help me I felt the writer to be grotesquely taken with the sexual writings.
Rose Red has the ambition of concept. It's the Shining realized with greater purpose and more horrifying conclusions. The book however may prove a disappointment to those who were seeking a rough ride as one might expect of King and those that write alongside him. I may not regret reading it but just like the original group trapped inside, I wanted the hell out eventually.

Do-it-yourself Brain Surgery presents itself from the get go as an implausible dead pan trip into the maddening and insane world of self discovery and home project work. The illustrations are varied from simple to complex, with the writing taking itself very seriously as well it's readers. It may sound rather off but I had been expecting...less serious subjects?
DIYBS has a variety of crazy sounding and mind numbing " projects " by title alone however the serious text and informational process takes itself so seriously that any point of humor is disregarded in the wake of more comprehensive and distinguished methods. Every now and then you might get a little taste of humor but in the matter of relevance it is, for all intents and purposes, a textbook of multiple subjects.
Lord help me I felt we were getting somewhere in the Taxidermy section however the straight faced bits of madness are again few and far between the serious instructions. This however is again my own expectations of a more abstractly, perhaps humorously intellectual kind of book.
You will learn a lot from this book, and it is quick to stab at the complexities of many lessor examined area's of intrigue. However I just suppose I was looking forward to some nonsense and maybe some mind numbing in the alternative sense. I am disappointed to remark there is little humor than in the chapter titles or now and again subject matters. I am however delighted to have a book that is otherwise insightful in the most abstract of sense.

THV is a fascinating if not brief journey into an abstract realm of distant morals and disjointed concepts. Presented in a writing style that turns tender moments and intimate encounters into wretched and grotesque acts of deviancy. Carlton Mellick III has no problems with presenting a near cartoonish world with unpleasing descriptions and things one would not consider in a typical day, let alone nightmare.
It is a story of love between a man and woman. It is a story of a skeleton clawing it's way right out of her from a place women fear babies to come out of. It is a story of one man being enticed to enter the unknown and discover a world where his own skeleton becomes his pet and the sentence " I am not camping in your vag*na. " somehow make sense. If you're crazy that is. Like me.
There are surprisingly rather tender and thought provoking moments within the pages of this story. Moments that can honestly be touching before the brutal reality sets in that you're reading this book still. The length of all the thematic elements leading up to the finale of understanding far outweigh the point in which readers may begin to truly appreciate the madness of the world.
The ending had came with such a sudden crack that it felt rather rushed and lost the essence and flavor, nay, the speed that was so frequent and established. One might call it a literary whiplash.

How to Profit From the Coming Rapture is a straight faced parody of self financial establishment with ground rules that bring laughter in godly proportions under the worst of conditions.
The books is quite balanced and concise while also being direct about Religious articles and detailing of what to expect, how to best expect it and how to best make money off the years of true hell you will most likely be unable to escape. It especially helps if you have a base knowledge of Religion though that is more for the sake of the humor value, otherwise it is expressed in a more forward way that you, the reader, are aware of these themes but are given brief insights of understanding into them.
Whether you're planning out the wills of your family and friends as ' quick term investment ' dabbling in the economic markets of godless products or plotting out liquid money by turning all your money into liquids, this book has it out for the reader's throats.
Like most serious dead pan humor, this book takes itself very seriously and does not make a habit of breaking character. If you are not so much into finance self help and prep books, this may strike you as too on the nose and dull, however if you have a wicked side and know you're not going where so many people rave as the number one place to be, pull back a chair and have some laughs. It's the book the antichrist doesn't want you to read. That's saying something!

Strange sex is quite the odd little series of shenanigans and deviant sexual depravities of various writers. It is a collection of tales under many profound and endearing, sometimes darkly filthy literature that can make one feel unclean not just in a mental capacity but also spiritually.
The cast of writers is spread and diverse as are the subject matters and the engrossingly bizarre cast to compliment the mind jostling tales within. I find the first tale " Interloper " by D.F Noble to be a tame opening into the nonsensical. Without spoiling the overall plot at hand, a man simply talks with another man at the zoo about relationship problems while watching two turtle in an exhibit have sex. What comes of their conversation leads to a quickly sweetening and unholy event that just justifies the living hell out of this book from the start.
Another, " F*ck or Feast " by writer, Craig Mullins, presents a more darkly tale of an abductee in the wastelands of mutants and other horrifying things and forced into a mass spectacle. Again, not giving much of anything up here but what begins blatantly crude in style, quickly finds it's legs for a more lovecraftian surprise.
Some tales are less inviting and find the darkest equations of twisted writing coupled with fowl themes such as " Foreigner " also written by D.F Noble that takes place in the first person perspective of a creature that wears a man's muscle and skin as a suit and does things so morally depraved, it can be hard to unsee if faced with a vivid imagination.
All in all, Strange Sex is exactly as the title presents itself. Its forward, its nonsense, its insanity, it has stuffed animals ejaculating acidic fuzz that smells like cotton candy. It also has great profanities, gore so repulsive it may test some, sexorcisms and genitalia in places you do not want Genitalia.
The perfect destructive book for the perfectly destructive individual. The light is green on this one, best to start that engine and go for it.
