Robert Kowalski's personal story is legendary. By the age of forty-one, he had suffered a heart attack and had undergone two coronary bypass surgeries. A traditional dietary approach to lowering his cholesterol failed dismally, and faced with the unpleasant alternative of a lifetime on medication, he created a program that proved astonishingly effective for him -- and legions of others worldwide who use it.

Interesting story that could have been written in a feature length magazine article and included all the important information. I felt the author stretched his material to make it book length. There was a lot of conjecture of what might have been going through someone's mind plus lengthy detailing of scenery, settings, body types, etc that seemed like the writer was using it just for filler. Easy to read in a few hours time, I found myself skipping ahead to find out the next essential piece of the story.

The family just got a little stranger. They're simply the weirdest, wildest, most unusual family ever. They live ina world that is certain to delight people of all ages, where mother, Morticia, prefers roses with the blooms cut off. And father, Gomez, challenges Thing to the occasional Indian wrestle. Then come the children, Wednesday and Pugsley, happily at play in the family graveyard, orgleefully delighted with their Uncel Fester's talent for turning on light bulbs with his mouth. And now, the baby, Pubert, spitting fire and making it awfully difficult for mom to find the perfect babysitter.

To fully understand the humor of this book, you have to be familiar with the references he makes. This book was written in the early 90s, so you need to be familiar with the first George Bush and Dan Qualye, as well as the headlines from that time.

The short story is a literary form with immense versatility. The literary richness of the genre is reflected in the breadth and versatility of the writing chosen for this volume. Here is a selection from the work of some of the best nineteenth and early twentieth century American aurhors, including such consummate storytellers as Mark Twain and Henry James, as well as their distinguished but lesser-known compatriots.

As a child-welfare worker some 30 years ago, I wondered if things had changed much since my days of working in foster care and protective services to children. The truth is...not much, just updated technology.
I placed many children in foster care, many times on an emergency basis, and this book helped me understand what the experience was like for the people into whose homes I placed children.
Very interesting reading of a story that needs to be told.

Jezebel and Delilah have plenty to teach contemporary Christian women, according to Bad Girls of the Bible and What We Can Learn from Them. In this self-help book, Liz Curtis Higgs tells fictionalized, contemporary stories based on the lives of biblical characters including Eve, Potiphar's Wife, and the Woman at the Well. In verse-by-verse commentary, Higgs summarizes each life's lessons and provides a list of questions for personal consideration or group discussion.
I just finished a women's Bible study utilizing this book and it was very enjoyable and I learned a lot about the women featured.
