I will have to say that although I am a loyal reader of Michael Connelly, it did not seem that he wrote this book. Poor prose, choppy sentences, characters did not act true to nature, and Bosch's reckless and thoughtless actions are just not the norm. Did he farm this out to a ghostwriter? Say it isn't so!
His Mickey Haller books are still the real deal

My husband, who reads several books a week, lists this as one of his favorite books of all time. Not praise given lightly!
New York in 1896 is the time and place. Caleb Carr elegantly details the time and place; it will pull you in and fascinate you.

Forensic psychitrist Frank Clevenger tracks and traces another serial killer, while trying to get a grip on his own personal problems. Descriptions of "the architect"'s house designs are an interesting sidelight.

mercifully brief

A romance trying to be a thriller, the stilted dialogue was hard to overlook

this yearly mystery collection is usually good, but the guest editor this year (Joyce Carol Oates) chose some really moody weird stories....
If you like her style, you might enjoy this. At least there was a good Laura Lippman story included!

how could the first book in this series be so great and this book be so awful??
Review Date: 12/13/2009
Terribly awkward prose makes this book painful to read. I am amazed that this author has had 9 books published.

A vampire book, not as good as other authors in my opinion. I liked her books in another series better.
