I so wanted and expected to love this book. Ms. Rhimes' story of success is so inspiring, and I am a big fan of her television works. But, as hard as it is to believe, I actually did not like her writing style in this book.
Her writing style was just not to my liking.
Not to MY liking.
Not.
To my liking.
She wrote like that throughout the book. Very repetitively. Repeating herself with partial sentences, I guess hoping to drive her thoughts home. To me, it ruined the fluidity of the reading process.
The fluidity was ruined for me.
For me.
Maybe not for you.
But for me it was ruined.
It exasperated me. I gave up.
Alas, I hoped for more.
Alas.

Rhimes is a talented writer. I had no idea she was so shy! Great story of how she overcame her habit of saying "NO" to invites, projects, etc. Great insight into famous people and their torments. Fun read, loved hearing about all the love she shares in her family.

Very inspiring. She sounds ditzy in the beginning but don't give up on this book. It will get better.

The book ended up being every so much than I expected - speaking to me on so many levels. Shonda lays it all out there. For you to immerse yourself in all that she is. All that she was. All that she will be.

Loving Grey's Anatomy isn't a prerequisite for getting the grit of Shonda's journey, but knowing the history of the twisted sisters Cristina & Meredith helps you understand the track laid out ahead of you.

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Shonda herself. I can't imagine the printed page could EVER bring this book to life in same way.
