I thought this was a great book. We homeschool and this was required reading for my 7 year old, for our tutorial. We read the book together and she thought is was very interesting. It was a simple story and she related to the main character being around the same age as her. In the book the teacher encourages them to write- it didnt matter what they wrote, it was just important to write. It inspired her to write a story of her own. She used names similar to the characters in the book. It was a two page run on, sometimes hard to figure out what she was trying to say story, but she took Miss Agnes's advice and wrote. That's a good message.
