If you are a fan of well thought out, character thick, epic horror novels such as Mcammon's Swan Song, or King's Salems Lot, or Straub's Floating Dragon. Well then welcome to your new favorite writer. I heard about James A Moore because this book (series) won a Bram Stoker award for best horror novel. So I figured I would check it out. Two months and three books later I was a fan. The thing to me that makes this series so impressive is it's depth. Moore goes all the way back to the beginning of this town to weave you the tale of how it came about to be cursed. The first book--Writ in Blood is a fascinating history lesson of this fictional town. Read these books in order. They are numbered so you can't screw it up. Writ in Blood #1, The Pack#2, Dark Carnival#3. His writing style will keep you turning the page and up late at night wondering what will happen next. Full of twists and turns and "oh thats creepy" moments. Enjoy them I know I did.

I completely enjoyed this book. It is written in a very interesting style that has us bouncing back and forth between three different story lines.

In one we are following Simon MacGruder, and elderly man who has recently felt compelled to investigate and write the history of Serenity Falls, a town where he has spent his life. The history that he writes is not what you would typically find in the History books, though. It is a much more morbid history of all of the tragedies and atrocities visited upon or committed by the citizens of Serenity Falls throughout it's history.

The second part is that history of Serenity Falls as it would be written for a book. From the first settlers and the barbaric death that they visited upon one of the female settlers, through a history, that does not leave any of the descendants of those first settlers untouched by tragedy.

The third part of the book follows a Hunter by the name of Jonathan Crowley. Jonathan follows and kills evil supernatural beings across the country. He does not visit Serenity Falls in this book, but I have no doubt that it will be his destination in one of the next two books in the series.

Looking forward to reading the rest of this series as well!

I just finished reading this and I wish I had the second book RIGHT NOW!!! But I don't, so I'll have to order it and wait until it gets here. This is the first book I've read by this author and I think he is absolutely brilliant. I was able to follow the story easily even with the transitions to different places and characters throughout the book. If you enjoy horror novels, this series will be right up your alley!

Yes, finally a book that has the spooky effect I have been longing for again. Mr. Moore's stlye is reminiscent of Stephen King's Salems Lot. This author has his own stlye that will draw you in quickly. The story takes place in Serenity Falls, a quaint hamlet that gives the appearance of charm although it is dying. Businesses have evacuated, tourism vanished. Oh and good will among neighbors....there isn't any. Serenity Falls you'll find is a nasty little place to dwell. You'll soon find out it's full of secrets, horror, and curses. The story is fun and spooky, and Mr Moore is a master at creating more than enough scare on the page to keep you glued to your seat....with the lights on!!! Each discusting character is perfectly created. You'll love the hatefull creatures.

Writ In Blood is book #1 of a trilogy that is best read in order. Each one won't let you down in the suspense and scare department.

The Pack book #2
Dark Carnival book #3

This is the first of his new series. This one is about a man trying to write a history of Serenity Falls and finding a gruesome pattern of murder and mayhem. Very good start, although the ending was a little off for me, but I guess that means I'll have to read the next one.

I love this guys style! The work he puts into the characters is fantastic! Even the short lived characters are great! He builds up a great plot which begins with the killing of a would be witch and ends.... What a great series! cant wait for book 2! A village historian uncovers all the terrible deeds done over the decades in this little pennsylvania town, while our other anti hero works on undoing the evil created elsewhere in a nicely done super witch doctor kinda way!! ITs awesome to read a NEW take on horror that doesnt rely on sex or gross outs to keep the story going!! Although believe me there is plenty of gruesomeness for all.

An historian has uncovered the town's unspeakable past: lynchings, mass murders, sexual depravity, and rumors of the birth of the anti-Christ. But the darkest secret is yet to be revealed
