Excellent story of a Frenchman who initially just wants to continue living, but then takes tenative steps to resist the Germans. However, despite what he wants, he finds himself playing both sides as both sides seek him out to use against the other. He also finds love.
While the book may end inconclusively, this is the only one of Furst's WWII Night Soldiers series which as a follow-up novel with the same protagonist. The sequel novel is titled Red Gold. I haven't read that one yet.
