I loved that the book is fiction, but was based on some real life people and events from the author's tour of duty in Afghanistan. I was immediately drawn toward the main character Zulaikha and so wanted her to be able to take advantage of all the opportunities offered to her. This book shows her daily struggles of having a cleft lip and also of her life in Afghanistan before and after meeting the American Soldiers. This book is geared toward the young adult audience, but people of any age would enjoy reading this heartwarming book!
