This is a Christian faith-based book, but Larry Burkett gives insightful, and practical counsel on how to survive the cutback from two incomes to one. He thoughtfully deals with a wide range of topics: preparing to live on one income, developing and living on a budget, dealing with the lack of self-esteem, coping with an unsupportive spouse, creating income while staying at home, being willing to make sacrifices, homeschooling the children, and finally re-entering the workforce. Women who have made the transition from marketplace to home share honest, personal accounts of victories, setbacks, fears, and joys. If you desire to be a stay-at-home mom but fear financial disaster, then this book will help guide you in the right direction. Full of excellent advice.

This book was recommended to me by a friend of mine who read it before she left the workplace. It has helped me prepare to do what I can to ensure that I can stay at home with my child (and someday, children). Although it is best to read before you leave the workplace, it has also helped me after I was forced from the workplace by the poor economy.
I read this book when preparing to be a stay-at-home-mom. It supported my decision to stay at home without downplaying the role of women in the workplace. It also discusses budgeting, saving money, working from home, and homeschooling. Read it before or after you quit your job for great insight and support.
