Been a while since I've read this, but I recall it as a well-written, poignant look into the lives of women brought together by the street on which they live. Reminded me of Amy Tan, just a bit.

Here is another book I would have enjoyed more if I had read it back in my teens. I loved the way the stories were weaved together, each character connected to the other in some large or small way creating a sense of community. Naylor includes a lesbian couple at Brewster and am always happy to see gays and lesbians given a voice in black literature. However, the book has a Lifetime Movie Channel (which I also enjoyed as a teen) feel about it that I find kind of cheesy as an adult.
