...a powerful portrayal of seven black women living in a bleak inner-city neighborhood. Author Gloria Naylor reveals the cruelty of their lives without sacrificing their strengths and their hearts.

Been a while since I've read this, but I recall it as a well-written, poignant look into the lives of women brought together by the street on which they live. Reminded me of Amy Tan, just a bit.

From the back cover:
The women of Brewster Place are "hard-edged, soft-centered, brutally demanding and easily pleased." In their stories, Gloria Naylor has created a community of women that has touched thousands of readers across the country.

I enjoyed the book.
