This was a fascinating book that I read in one day!
It covers 51 unusual (and sometimes gross!) medical conditions that have actually been documented. There is the woman who swallowed a toothbrush like the title suggests (she accidentally swallowed it while using it to force herself to vomit) to the man who had a swollen and distended abdomen, and the scars from trying to remove what was in it (after his death, the autopsy showed he had swallowed a number of metal objects).
I recommend reading this book alongside Dennis DiClaudio's THE HYPOCHONDRIAC'S POCKET GUIDE TO HORRIBLE DISEASES YOU PROBABLY ALREADY HAVE, which is just as fascinating -- and tongue-in-cheek hilarious!!

This is a really good book about bizarre medical cases. I've followed a lot of such stories online but had not heard about 99 percent of these. The stories are short, 2-3 pages, and the author throws in a bit of humor here and there. At times, that humor got on my nerves, keeping my rating of the book down a bit, but overall, its a good, fast read; easy to put down and pick up again when youre ready.
Interesting read. Good if you are in to Untold Stories of the ER and Bizarre ER.

Some of these tales are interesting, some predictable, some tedious. I did find the actual medical information quite interesting. The writing style wore on me a little as there was a predictably tongue-in-cheek, inside-joke quality. I'd call this a perfectly decent book to set somewhere and read a chapter or two, then lay it down. It is not gripping enough for me to continue reading for long.
I READ THIS BOOK THE SAME AFTERNOON I GOT IT, WHICH WAS TODAY,TALK ABOUT SOME ODD STORIES,COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN TILL I FINISHED IT.
Many cases of truly weird and shocking behavior that lands people in the Emergency room.
