A courageous woman who would give Oprah a run for her money, if she were an actual person! Excellent book!

The first 200 pgs was a struggle, but the next 600-something enveloped me into a story of rags to riches; true love not to be had, then had and lost; family, devotion, and revenge. I can't wait to read the second one in the family saga.

over 900 pages; some critics praised the description of parties, homes, food and drink, and jewels, but I skipped these descriptive parts.
Loved the book
I really loved this book. I've read it at least three times!
This is abridged. It reduces a 911 page paperback down to 2 cassette tapes.

A celebration of an indomitable spirit, here is New York Times bestselling author Barbara Taylor Bradford's dazzling saga of a woman who dared to dream--and to triumph against all odds....In the brooding moors above a humble Yorkshire village stood Fairley Hall. There, Emma Harte, its oppressed but resourceful servant girl, acquired a shrewd determination. There, she honed her skills, discovered the meaning of treachery, learned to survive, to become a woman, and vowed to make her mark on the world. In the wake of tragedy she rose from poverty to magnificent wealth as the iron-willed force behind a thriving international enterprise. As one of the richest women in the world Emma Harte has almost everything she fought so hard to achieve--save for the dream of love, and for the passion of the one man she could never have. Through two marriages, two devastating wars, and generations of secrets, Emma's unparalleled success has come with a price. As greed, envy, and revenge consume those closest to her, the brilliant matriarch now finds herself poised to outwit her enemies, and to face the betrayals of the past with the same ingenious resolve that forged her empire.
This is one of my favorite books of all time.
A Novel of Love and Ambition. The steaming story of Emma Harte, who rises from servant girl to beome as international corporate power. A must read bood.
"A long, satisfying novel of money and power, passion and revenge..."
The dramatic and moving story of Emma Harte, who rises from servant girl to become an international corporate power and one af the richestwomen in the world. Interwoven are themes of high finance, romance, and revenge, set against the sweep of 20-th century history.
Every generation has a woman for whom the world is not big enough...Emma Harte was that kind of woman. From the moment you meet her, in a private jet en route to the skyscraping Manhattan headquarters of Harte Enterprises, you will be held inescapably in her spell. Born to an impoverished Yorkshire family, seduced and left pregnant at age 15, she was nevertheless blessed with an unshakable faith in herself and implacable will to survive. Hers is the story of a woman who paid so high a price for love that she'd pay any price for revenge.
One of the "Best"!!!
Once you get a feel for this authors writing style this is a great read! I really enjoyed this book. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

For those who like romance novels and like Barbara Taylor Bradford, I recommend this book. I didn't really read it, couldn't really get into it, but have a feeling it's a great story! So for those who are looking for a something along that line, this one's for you!
