An excellent book! We know more about the end of World War II from the Allies point of view than from any other. Here is a diary kept by a woman living in East Berlin during the end times of the war. She survives the bombing only to have to endure the brutal occupation by Russian forces. She is an exceptionally strong person!

A terrific WWII story about a woman surviving however she can when Russian troops invaded Berlin. It isnt a pretty story but one that is very important.

This is not the usual WWII story. The author is straight forward and writes in a way that lefts you know of the suffering she and others endured without making it sappy or overly graphic. This isn't a plea for sympathy for the German people, just a narrative of what happened to one Berliner. I had always known that when the Russian army occupied Berlin that they were hard on the women there. I had no idea it was this bad.

This was a fascinating read...not quite what I expected it to be. It is a very personal journal of one womans experience during the war. One of the best books I have ever read.
