I listened to the audio book and Mr. Burroughs' strong emotions were very evident. I was transfixed at times and horrified at others. Very powerful.

I like Augesten Burroughs, I liked this book. It's dark, it's sad, and at times I even saw myself "at the table". However, this is not an easy book to digest. Burroughs conjures up pure evil in this gloomy recollection of childhood. Very compelling but lacks a consistent flow.

Really, really, really could NOT take the author's voice. Over-enunciated and way too slow. Got through the first 2 cd's and decided that since I really rather put a bullet in the CD player than listen to anymore, I figured I'd give up.

A) I think it helped that I already read one of Augusten's memoirs (Dry), but
B) As some other readers have said, I did NOT love that he narrated his own audio book. He sometimes did speak SO slowly and enunciated that I wanted to pull my eyeballs out.
C) And yet, this is HIS life and HIS story and he can tell it how he wants it. I respect that and found it a good audio book overall. I don't know if I would have gotten the same feel if I'd read a paperback.
