I don't usually read sci-fi or post-apoc but this book is excellent - a great story of survival.

It was an interesting read, the first three-fourths was fairly enjoyable to read before bed, but the last quarter was a little drawn-out, primarily consisting of his day to day routine of survival, and didn't offer many interesting plot-twists.

Post-apocalyptic novel about a guy trying to reach the sanctuary of his brother's ranch in Montana in a world where the reduced human population consists of small hostile enclaves fending off roving packs of raiders. Along the way, he picks up a wolf companion. Slow and dull. Interminable descriptions of the most mundane matters. Virtually nothing happens, and the most dramatic development -- the attack on the armored trade wagon -- occurs off-stage, so to speak, merely being recounted in abbreviated form later by a survivor.

Excellent story. A different end of the world story. Well written with a surprise ending.

This is a story of characters seeking to survive in a world gone crazy. It's based on a what-if scenario, where the USA is losing its footholds and no longer exists, leaving people to fend for themselves. Rather than focusing on large swaths of society, the author describes a number of individuals' efforts to survive and make their way in a fallen society. The characters are mostly believable and developed into full characters.
