Third book in the True Game series with a predictably unpredictable ending (you KNOW something will save them, you just don't know WHAT...)
An "index" illustration is included in the middle of book that attempts to explain a bit of the hierarchy nomenclature used in the series.

Terrific series full of wonder, weirdness, and beauty. I love it.

The son of Mavin Manyshaped is back. Let the Players of the True Game beware.

A giant stalks the mountains. The Shadowpeople gather by the light of the moon. The Bonedancers raise up armies of the dead. And the Wizard's Eleven sleep, trapped in their dreams.

Players, take your places. The final Game begins.

Peter, along with his friend Chance and his Gamesmen pieces, heads for the North driven by several omens and portents. Silkhands is a reluctant partner, but she brings along her student Jinian and they meet Queynt, a traveler who insists on helping. No one is quite whom they seem. I like that Tepper added some complexity to Peter, and I really liked the bone-raising thing at the end, very dramatic.
