Part of the China Bayles series. She is an ex-high powered lawyer who has moved to small town Texas and opened an herb shop. More involving and better written than most series mysteries.

I just started to read this series and I am hooked. I really enjoy the characters. Another great book in the series. Can't wait to read the rest.

Susan Wittig Albert writes a very engaging mystery series. You really like China Bayles from the first book and can relate to her all through the series. I have very much enjoyed all of Wittig's China Bayles mysteries. If you are looking for a great series to begin reading in the cozy/herbal mystery genre - this is the one for you!

Pretty good intro to a new (new to me) mystery series author. This is the second book in the series and I'm looking forward to reading the first, and then others in order.

Friendship means you're there when your friend is accused of murder. China Bayles is a nicely complex amateur sleuth.

I've been anxious to start this series but find it a bit disappointing because of the liberal dose of liberal politics shoved throughout the "mystery". Without that it would have been much more enjoyable. Not sure if I'll read anymore or the series or not.

I thoroughly enjoy all of Susan's books. This one had a neat twist to it.

I love learning about plants, as I always to in this series. I love the way Susan's mind works through mysteries and relationships. I enjoy reading about my home state and places I know and love.

Fun, light story....In a case of deadly Halloween hijinks, a holiday prank culminates in a brutal murder. China's friend Ruby becomes a prime suspect when a mudslinging minister accuses her of New Age witchdraft. And it's up to China to unmask the real killer.
This is an excellent series. I have kept copies of all of the books. I am only getting rid of this one because it is a duplicate.
The second book in a very well written cozy mystery series. This was a real page-turner - I didn't want to put it down!
Love this series!!
I love mysteries and herbs so I was very excited to see this book. The book was engaging but the amount of liberal ideology injected into this book was a complete turn off. If I am reading a fiction book I want to relax, not be subjected to a political agenda.
One of a series featuring China Bayles and herb shop in Pecan Springs, Texas. Set at Halloween time, this fun book dabbles in witchcraft (well not really, but the accusation is there) and life in a small town.
The 2nd book in the China Bayles series, set in the Texan hill country.
A quick but enjoyable read.
Amateur sleuth China Bayles is a former lawyer who now runs an herb shop and keeps getting involved in solving local murders. In this one China's best friend becomes the suspect a brutal Halloween murder.
China Bayles Mystery #2.China & Ruby find themselves in a bit of trouble on Halloween and Ruby, but all is revealed in the end. Very well done. Excellent herbal lore.
