The 2nd book in the Banned and the Banished series, this book is just as good as the first. It is full of rich detail, strange characters both good and evil, and so much intrigue you think you'd be lost. But Clemens keeps a handle on all the characters and plotlines. The surprises keep coming, though, and Elena and her band are constantly on edge trying to keep one step ahead of the Dark Lord on their way to retrieve the Blood Diary and save their land from the blackest evil.
Wonderful character development, and I like a book that allows the reader into the thoughts of all the characters, not just the main hero or heroine. Really well written, and not a chewed up and spit out replay of a lot of fantasy novels out there today.

I read this book a long time ago and loned my copy to a few people. They all loved it. It is a bit different but in the best way. I have read all the books in this collection and they are all great. I am glad I did not read them when they first come out. Waiting the next book would have killed me.
